Amisha and William met in Midtown Manhattan, and New York City’s vibrant energy and cultural offerings set the scene for their burgeoning love story. William later proposed to Amisha on a trip to France where they strolled the streets of Old Lyon, dined at bistros, relaxed on the pristine beaches of Corsica, and came to understand why Paris is known as the “city of love.”
For their wedding, the couple selected Gramercy Mansion as their venue for its whimsical charm and romantic gardens. Built in 1902 by the brother of impressionist painter Mary Cassatt, Gramercy Mansion was perfect for their guests to roam the beautiful sprawling property and best suited the style and flow for each their Indian-Western weekend events. Gramercy's Carriage House had an indoor-outdoor setup that was ideal for mingling, dancing, and henna on the Sangeet night. The Baraat unfolded on a circular driveway where a Vintage blue mustang convertible led the groom's parade around an area of lush greenery and florals. The couple's Hindu Ceremony took place in the picturesque Garden Atrium, an open sunlit room teeming with natural flowers and greens among the stunning floral draped mandap designed by the talented Kate Campbell Floral Design. The Western Vow Ceremony unfolded in a stone-paved outdoor formal garden, and Cocktail Hour took place in the gazebo gardens adjacent to the mansion. Guests took in the fresh perfume-like aroma of summer flowers while sipping on refreshing cocktails from renowned Baltimore caterer Zeffert and Gold. Additional fusion cuisine included multiple Indian buffets, and a delicious French-Mediterranean inspired cocktail hour and seated reception dinner.
The newlyweds hired brilliant South Asian Wedding Planner Christine Godsey (CG&Co Events) to expertly design and coordinate the multi-day celebration that equally honored both cultures. The couple's sophisticated and eclectic wedding aesthetic was inspired by the vibrant reds, pinks, oranges and marigold hues traditional in Indian weddings, coupled with the elegant florals typical of old-world romantic Western garden weddings. On Sangeet night, the bride's colorful pink lehenga, paired with the groom's lime green and floral outfit, was also a perfect tribute to the majestic Indian peacock and the jubilation of their wedding day. The couple's shaadi outfits were more traditional, and the bride's bright red lehenga combined traditional heavy Indian gold thread work (zari) with modern western-inspired floral embroidery. The groom's cream sherwani had a pale pink dupatta, turban, and matching custom made shoes. This carefully chosen outfit was very reminiscent of his personal style - classic and understated, with clean lines and refined detailing.
