about

ANNA SCHMIDT

Beautiful photographs are important. Feeling fully present with the people you love matters even more.

That belief shapes everything I do.

I'm a wedding photographer based in Washington, D.C., creating vibrant, refined imagery for couples who value connection, authenticity, and meaningful experiences. While I care deeply about beautiful photographs, I'm equally invested in how your wedding day feels while it's happening.

I've always been fascinated by people—the relationships they build, the traditions they carry forward, and the moments that often become the most meaningful memories. Those fleeting interactions are what first drew me to photography and continue to inspire my work today.

THE EXPERIENCE
Wedding days move quickly. Months—or sometimes years—of planning unfold in a matter of hours. Before most couples realize it, they're standing in the middle of a packed dance floor wondering where the day went.

One of the things I hear most often after a wedding is: "It all went by so fast." My goal is to help ensure that when you look back, you remember not only how beautiful it was, but how it felt to be there.

I work closely with planners and creative teams to make photography feel seamless within the larger celebration. While planners guide the flow of the day, my attention is focused on the people inside it—the relationships, interactions, and moments that often become the most meaningful memories.

My approach blends gentle direction with unobtrusive documentation. I know when to step in, when to step back, and when a moment is better left uninterrupted. After all, the best photographs rarely come from perfection. They come from trust. When people feel comfortable enough to laugh, cry, dance, hug, and simply be themselves, the photographs naturally become more honest, more emotional, and more enduring.

I work best with couples who value trust, collaboration, and thoughtful preparation as much as artistry. Together, we create an experience that feels calm, supportive, and fully aligned from beginning to end.

''Anna is a fantastic photographer with a kind-hearted spirit. When we partner with her and collaborate as a photo/video team, we always know that our couple is going to have an amazing experience on the day and walk away with timeless and elegant photos.
We couldn't recommend her enough!""

“Anna creates beautiful, meaningful images. But more importantly, she makes the wedding day itself feel safe, steady, and fully lived. I felt like I could breathe easier when she was around.”

— Clara, ASP Bride (Washington, D.C.)

A POINT OF VIEW
Weddings are more than events. They are the gathering of families, the continuation of traditions, and the beginning of a new chapter shared with the people you love most. The emotional weight of these moments is never lost on me. Being entrusted with documenting them is a responsibility I hold with deep gratitude.

Creating photographs that become part of a family's history—images that are revisited, shared, and cherished for generations—is both my purpose and my privilege. Because while flowers fade and timelines end, the relationships at the center of a wedding continue long after the day itself is over. Those are the stories I care most about preserving.

BACKGROUND & PERSPECTIVE
With a bachelor's degree in Photography and more than a decade of experience documenting thoughtfully designed celebrations, I bring both technical mastery and emotional awareness to every wedding I photograph.

My work has been published nationally and internationally, and I am honored to be recognized among the leading wedding photographers in the Washington, D.C. region. Today, I photograph weddings throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Annapolis, St. Michaels, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Charlottesville, and destinations beyond.

While my artistic influences draw from fine art, fashion, cinema, architecture, and travel, the people in front of my camera have always been my greatest inspiration. A wedding may be filled with beautiful details, but what stays with me are the people: the tearful embraces, the laughter that echoes across a reception floor, and the quiet look exchanged between two people who know they have found home in one another.

Those moments are fleeting. They cannot be recreated, repeated, or staged. Preserving them with honesty, care, and intention is what continues to draw me to this work year after year.

I approach every wedding with the same intention:
to create photographs that feel as good as they look—and to document the people, moments, and connections that matter most.

My approach blends editorial artistry with genuine emotion, creating photographs that feel both elevated and deeply personal. I provide guidance when it's helpful, step back when it matters most, and create space for moments to unfold naturally.

Couples often describe me as calm, grounded, and deeply attentive. On wedding days, I bring a steady presence, thoughtful preparation, and a genuine love for people. I believe the best photographs happen when people feel comfortable enough to be fully themselves.

When you invite someone into the most meaningful moments of your life, trust matters just as much as talent. That's why my approach begins with listening—to your story, your values, your traditions, and the people who matter most to you.

Because while every wedding is different, the things that matter most are often the same: love, connection, family, friendship, and the people gathered to celebrate alongside you.

Does this sound like you?
Let's begin.

ASP couples value connection as much as they value beautiful photographs.

They care about meaningful experiences, genuine relationships, and celebrating alongside the people they love most.

They appreciate artistry, but not perfection.

They value authenticity, collaboration, and trust.

Most importantly, they want photographs that feel as good as they look.

If this sounds like you, we'd probably get along wonderfully.

pastTime

Travel has taught me to pay attention.

Whether wandering through a new city or returning to a familiar place, I love discovering the small details that give a location its character and soul.

Those moments continue to shape how I see place, memory, and home.

04

meal

Food is one of my favorite ways to experience culture and connection. Shared meals bring people together in a way few things can. Long conversations, laughter around a table, and the simple act of gathering all feel deeply familiar to me.

It's no surprise that some of my favorite wedding moments happen around the dinner table.

FORMAL FLAIR

Personal style is a form of storytelling.

I love when couples embrace fashion as an extension of who they are—whether that's timeless and classic, modern and editorial, or entirely their own.

The most beautiful looks are always the ones worn with confidence.

places i've been

Europe has my heart.

I return again and again to places where beauty is woven into everyday life—Parisian streets at dusk, quiet Italian piazzas, architecture shaped by centuries of history and craft.

Those experiences remind me that the most meaningful details are often the ones people almost overlook.

People will always be my favorite subject.

The relationships, traditions, laughter, and quiet moments between the people we love are what first drew me to photography—and what continues to inspire me every day.

Weddings are a team effort, and I'm endlessly grateful to work alongside people I trust and admire.

FINE ART

Art shapes how I see the world.

Architecture, fashion, painting, cinema, and design all influence the way I compose photographs and notice light.

I'm drawn to work that balances elegance with emotion—timeless beauty that still feels alive.

06

HAPPY PLACE

Near the water is where I feel most at home.

Growing up in Annapolis, I developed a deep appreciation for open horizons, changing light, and the quiet rhythm of life along the shoreline. That connection continues to influence both my work and my favorite portrait locations.

I love when couples bring their personal style into a session.

Whether it's a beautifully tailored suit, a dramatic gown, or a favorite piece of jewelry, style can become part of the story.

The most memorable portraits feel less like fashion and more like an authentic reflection of the people in them.

08

WEDDING MOMENT

My favorite wedding moments usually happen just after the ceremony formalities end.

The laughter gets louder. The shoulders relax. The celebration becomes fully real.

It's the shift from anticipation to joy—and it's one of my favorite things to document.

09

WEDDING DETAIL

I have always loved flowers.

They bring color, movement, texture, and emotion to a celebration. The right floral design can completely transform a space while still feeling deeply personal.

They're one of the details that help tell the larger story.
