about

ANNA SCHMIDT

Anna Schmidt is an internationally recognized wedding photographer based in Washington, D.C., known for refined, joyful imagery and a calm, steady presence on wedding days. Her work blends editorial polish with genuine emotion, capturing thoughtfully designed celebrations with clarity, care, and intention.

Planners and couples often describe Anna as intuitive, grounded, and deeply attentive — someone who brings ease to complex days and helps moments feel fully lived rather than rushed or performed.

When you invite someone into the most meaningful moments of your life, trust matters just as much as artistry. Anna’s approach to wedding photography begins with listening — to your story, your values, your culture, and the energy you want your celebration to hold. Every wedding she photographs is carefully planned, deeply personal, and rooted in what matters most to the people at its center.

The Experience
Anna works closely with experienced planners and creative teams to photograph refined, well-orchestrated celebrations with intention and care. While planners manage the flow of the day, Anna’s role is to guide the photographic experience within it — helping couples stay present, comfortable, and connected as the day unfolds.

Her approach blends gentle guidance with unobtrusive documentation, allowing space for real emotion while ensuring the story is fully and thoughtfully preserved. She knows when to step in, when to step back, and how to create portraits that feel natural, unforced, and emotionally true.

Anna works best with couples who value collaboration, trust the process, and appreciate thoughtful preparation as much as artistry. This shared mindset allows the experience to feel steady, supported, and creatively aligned from beginning to end.

A Point of View
Weddings are more than events — they are the culmination of generations past and the beginning of what’s to come. The emotional weight of these moments is never lost on Anna.

Being entrusted with documenting them is a responsibility she holds with deep gratitude. Creating photographs that become part of a family’s history — images that are revisited, shared, and cherished for decades — is both her purpose and her privilege.

Background & Perspective
With a bachelor’s degree in Photography and over a decade of experience documenting thoughtfully designed weddings, Anna brings both technical mastery and emotional awareness to every celebration she photographs.

Her work has been published nationally and internationally, and she is consistently recognized among the top wedding photographers in Washington, D.C. Anna photographs weddings throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England — including Washington, D.C., New York City, Baltimore, Annapolis, Richmond, Philadelphia, Newport, Providence, and Boston — and is trusted by planners and clients who value excellence, collaboration, and intention.

While her artistic influences draw from fine art, fashion, cinema, and travel, her greatest inspiration will always be the people in front of her camera.

''Anna is a fantastic photographer with a kind-hearted spirit. When we partner with her and collaborate as a photo/video team, we always know that our couple is going to have an amazing experience on the day and walk away with timeless and elegant photos.
We couldn't recommend her enough!""

“Anna creates beautiful, meaningful images. But more importantly, she makes the wedding day itself feel safe, steady, and fully lived. I felt like I could breathe easier when she was around.”

— Clara, ASP Bride (Washington, D.C.)

Beyond the Wedding Day
Outside of weddings, Anna finds calm near the water and pays close attention to light, movement, and atmosphere. These same instincts shape the way she photographs — steady, observant, and quietly attuned to what’s happening beneath the surface.

Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, she is inspired by environments that invite presence and ease. These influences inform the way she sees the world — and the way she photographs it.

The Team
Weddings are a team effort. Team ASP is made up of incredibly talented, hardworking, and compassionate photographers who share Anna’s commitment to excellence and care.

All team members are personally vetted and guided by Anna to ensure that both the experience and the imagery reflect the same level of intention, artistry, and professionalism clients expect from the studio. Their presence allows every wedding to be documented with consistency, discretion, and deep respect for the day.

I approach every wedding with the same intention:
to create space for people to feel present, supported, and deeply themselves.

Does this sound like you?
Let's begin.

ASP couples have a discerning eye for elevated style and a deep appreciation for artistry — whether expressed through fashion, architecture, music, or the way they gather their people together.

They value trust, authenticity, and collaboration. Grounded and present, they allow themselves to be fully seen, understanding that timeless beauty comes from sincerity rather than perfection.

They prioritize meaningful experiences, shared moments, and lasting memories with the people they love most. They celebrate diversity, honor individuality, and believe that love — in all its forms — deserves to be documented with care, respect, and intention.

If this resonates, I would be honored to work together.

pastTime

Visiting my parents while they lived in Germany left a lasting imprint — from winter markets and snow-capped mountains to the quiet sense of belonging that came with returning year after year.

Those moments continue to shape how I see place, memory, and home.

meal

Food is one of my favorite ways to experience culture and connection. Fresh seafood, especially raw tuna sashimi, Mediterranean tapas, and shared plates enjoyed slowly with friends and family will always top my list.

FORMAL FLAIR

Personal style is one of the most expressive parts of a wedding day. I love photographing multiple looks — whether a sparkly reception dress, a high-fashion jumpsuit, or thoughtfully chosen accessories that evolve as the evening unfolds.

These shifts add comfort, movement, and visual richness as the day transitions into night.

places i've been

Europe has my heart — for its architectural beauty, layered history, and reverence for art, culture, and daily ritual. France and Italy remain at the top of my list, places where design, food, and atmosphere feel inseparable.

Closer to home, I’m energized by New York City (a second home to D.C.) and grounded by the quiet warmth and natural rhythm of Hawaii.

Team ASP is the heart of this studio. An incredibly talented, thoughtful, and compassionate group, they bring care and intention to every celebration we document.

Weddings are a team effort — and I’m deeply grateful to work alongside people I trust completely, both creatively and personally.

FINE ART

Creating and surrounding myself with art matters deeply to me. Painting, cinema, music, and architecture all inform the way I see and compose images.

I’m drawn to the balance between classical form and bold, modern color — particularly European-inspired architecture with Renaissance or Beaux Arts elegance, and work that carries both restraint and emotion.

06

HAPPY PLACE

Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, I feel most myself near the water. The rhythm of the tide, open horizons, and changing light offer a sense of calm and clarity I return to often.

It’s no surprise that waterfront portrait sessions remain some of my favorite moments to photograph.

I love when couples bring elevated personal style to their portrait sessions — bold, intentional looks that feel like an extension of who they are.

Designers like Reem Acra, Roberto Cavalli, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Zuhair Murad, Christian Siriano, and Dolce & Gabbana are frequent sources of inspiration.

WEDDING MOMENT

Heartfelt vows will always be one of my favorite parts of a wedding day. But the moment just after — when it’s official and celebration begins — is pure joy.

It’s the exhale. The laughter. The shift from formality to freedom. And one of my favorite moments to document.

09

WEDDING DETAIL

Florals have a special place in my heart — especially peonies and roses. Timeless and romantic, they create softness and structure in equal measure.

I’m particularly drawn to designs that balance classic form with bold, intentional color.
